Question Camaro Chasis Conversion?

Well i remember watching this overhaullin show when they put the chasis from a 2000 corvette on the body of a 69 camaro, now is this possible to do with a third gen camaro? i saw this complete chasis with engine, tranny, rear-end, everything, would i be able to put this chasis on a third gen, i think it would be cool to have a third gen with IRS.

They don't come off the frames 'cause pony cars don't have frames.

Re: Camaro Chasis Conversion?

not true, they have sub-frames. the engine cradle is one half, the body is the other half, thats why F-bodies, especially those with T-tops or convertable tops benifit so much from subframe connectors. It ties the front subframe to the rest of the car more ridgedly than the mounting bolts that are used from the factory. To answer your question, with enough money anything is possible. The hardest part would be the placement of the rear transaxle due to the location of the camaro's gas tank. Also, there isnt alot of strong structure support back there to solidly mount the IRS from a vette into a third gen. Youd have to do one helluva hack and weld job to make it work, but its certainly possible.

It can be done and was done to a second gen firebird. He cut away the unibody in the rear and rolled the rear part of a vette frame under it and welded it to the front frame rails and welded the "uni body" to it in the rear. A butt load of work..but he needed it for the blown & N02 injected 455 he had in it.

i was talking to my cousin about it and he knows a guy that cut the bottom out of his camaro, then made a custom floor and just bolted it to the frame of a 86 chevy fullsize blazer.
