You mean the Mercedes-McLaren team? But they broke up, so I think its just a Mercedes team. But I think they will continue, and Honda and Toyota are still strong. With Ferrari, it's even better. But I think the Minardi team should quit. They are BAAAAAAAD.

He's talking about the McLaren F1 street car. How can you hate a car as great as that?

Why would you hate on something as awesome as the fastest street legal car ever made? What kind of cars do you like if the F1 is such an enemy to you?

It is kinda funny that a car built 10 years ago is still the best road car out there. You woulda thought someone would have made something better by now, but I don't hate the car for that, infact I love the McLaren. The BMW S70 engine is simply amazing.

PS. Has anyone heard rumors that Gordon Murray is considering building a new supercar?

I love how the driver seat is in the center with passenger seats on either side. Isn't the inside of the engine compartment gold plated? I think the reason no one tries to top the F1 is because it is really just to costly to do anymore.

Re: f1 must die

top gear/fifth gear got a faster track time with the enzo ferarri than the meclaren f1. The f1 has a higher top speed but less acceleration than the enzo, or so i hear.

Re: f1 must die

this is exactly why i hate it everyone is all gaga over it. i admit it is an enginering marvel but its over rated take a light-wieght, streamline carboon fiber body make it an mr with the under-body downforce spoilers and a massive v8 (something a little bgger than the ls-6 454 in the 1970 chevelle ss) hook it up to a 6spd manual trans with some good gripping tires and boom faster lighter better. i got it planned out already i just need the money.

I really don't think making the fastest car in the wold is as simple as a V8 on carbon fibre body...

and the Mclaren is amazing because it was easily the fastest car of its time, and car companies have made cars that beat in on individual characteristics, but no car can beat its overall balance of speed, acceleration, braking, handling ect...that, in my opinion, is what makes it so great.

Re: f1 must die

thats the thing though, building the mclauren f1 took years it wouldnt be that simple but those things and the right brakes suspension gear ratios you could match if not ecceed the mclauren f1. building a car isnt as simple as hooking a motor to some tires, you need to experiment with every little part and figure out witch combonation would work best, thats how gordon muray built the f1. after he built the general car he took styling into veiw he tinkered with everything thats why the mclauren f1 is a great machine.the reason the engine compartment is gold plated is because gold is one of the best insulators, gordon put spoilers under the car to keep it on the ground at 240 mph. its not simple and i never said it was i said i might be able to do it given the right resources.

That is real funny.

You want to take a carbon fiber body and stuff it with huge displacement lump of an engine, something with pushrods, something that isn't going to breath all that well in the top end.

It won't be faster. You need to think smaller than that with a higher revving better breathing engine. Also, the F1 is already pretty damn light being made out of a titanium alloy, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, the Cobra was not built even close to the level of the McLaren F1. All Shelby did was take a British car and stuff a Ford lump in it. Later he had to make chassis modifications for it to hold the 427-sideoiler. Still not even close to level of engineering that went into the F1. That is why people go "gaga" over it. It is one of the greatest cars of all time. I hate it when people go "gaga" over normal cars like the Corvette or the Skyline. However, the F1 fully deserves the admiration it gets.

The chassis is a carbon fiber monocoque, and according to their official website weighs 1140 kg (about 2500 lbs).

If you were referring to the engine, it is an aluminum block, with aluminum heads, and magnesium cam carriers and covers.
