Air Bag light is on - Cougar 99

Hello All ...

I recently bought a 99 cougar .. and the air bag light is on .. the manual says take it to dealer and the dealer is saying that they will charge 87 dollars only to find out what is wrong .. how serious is this sign .. can i still drive my car .. i stopped driving it ever since i saw the air bag light on .. Please help .. what does this light mean???

I am no expert but I think all that light means is the air bag is not working… should be ok to drive, just don’t get into a wreck.

i have a 2000 cougar and when my air bag light comes on, which is not very often, i just restart the car and it always goes off. sometimes i think the sensors get confused.
