Low front engine knock

First off I have an extended warrenty on my 02 SLT Envoy.
The problem that has cropped up is a knock when the engine is cold.
It is quite pronounced and as the engine warms it deminishes to slight.
I was wondering if anyone out there has experienced the same thing and if so what was the fix?
I am new to this vehicle and am sure glad that I purchaced the warrenty.

In another forum I post in I heard of a similar engine noise problem. The guy ende dup having to call GM directly because the local dealer couldn't get it fixed.

I had a knocking noise when cold and seemed to mellow out after it warmed up. Kind sounded like a noisey diesel. Then my fan was coming even while it was cold outside so went to the dealer and they said there was some computer updates and programing needed so it was under warranty then they did the service and amazingly enough they fixed the fan and it was alot quieter??? Maybe the knocking noise is a fuel mixture at cold problem????
