Few newbie questions...
Okay, I just need to know a few basic things about my car so I can start doing stuff to it: (BTW, I do not havthe owner's manual so I can't find the answer to these questions)
1.) It came with two remotes. One marked with "Driver's door only" The other one is blank. Does the passenger door have a remote lock, if it does, is it standard or option and finally if it's an option how can I tell if I have it. I can't use the remote to work the pass door, and I need to know if that's right. 2.) This car did not have foglights as an option, is there anyplace you can find a fog lights kit (besides pick n' pulls) or do I have to buy the lamps and rig something up for them? 3.) Does the stock reciever have an Amp/Power ant lead? I got an amp I can put in the car, but need to know if I can use the recievers own wiring or rig a switch for it. Re: Few newbie questions...
That's funny you mention that about the remote. We only got one with the wife's car, and it only works the driver's side, as far as I can tell.

1.) I have a 98' with remote entry, and the dealer did point out (and yes the manual) that it only works for the driver's side. This seems to be specific only to the ZX2. If you ever have an alarm installed, they'll probably be able to add the pass. side to it for you.
2.) Foglights were added during the re-release in 2003. 97'-01' did not, as far as I know, have the lights as an option. I don't know of any kits for it, but I doubt it would be too hard to swap the front ends with a 2003. 3.)If you DID find a way to run an amp off of the stock radio, it would be running off that same 10-15 amp fuse the stock radio uses. I've seen small amps blow out 20 amp fuses, so that's probably a bad idea. But the stock reciever does not have RCA outputs, which is in my book the only way to go, and any stereo guy would suggest buying a new head unit first thing. If you don't already have a stock CD player, the dash kit for a new one costs about $50, plus about $15 for the wiring harness. Right now I'm running a Bazooka 500-watt mono amp to one 10" sub, and it sounds really good. |

I guess that sounds right about the pass door. That's something I may look into, but I'm making sure everything works before my return period expires. As for the fog lamps, I need to know what I'll need to add the actual lamp (and I figure the bumpers are pretty much the same, but with a piece removed that would block the fog lamp. And when I refer to the amp/power ant lead, I'm talking about a singal wire that comes on with the head unit to turn the amp or the power ant on. You thought I was talking about constant hot, which deffinalty need to be 30 Amps for mine.

Re: Few newbie questions...
1. My remote is stock (2000) and works both doors
2. fogs were an option on ALL zx2's (98-03), same light size also 3. Ford does all their own crap for the wireing so the premuim amp you may just need a few wirs and the amp from a junk yard, but the ford amp sucks premium sound on fords tend to blow. |

Re: Few newbie questions...
my stock remote opens both doors. now... w/ most cars when you push unlock once... it unlocks both doors. on my car i have to hit it once and it unlocks the driver door and a second time w/in a few second that unlocks the passenger door... i dunno if ford is just dumb and forgot to tell you that or what but im pretty sure that all remote keyless entry systems for the zx2 are the same.
