all time 4x

I have a 1994 Cherokee Limited all time 4x. With the recent gas prices I was wondering if it was ok to pull the front drive line and drive it that way so I can run just on 2x. I assume this all time 4x is what is eatting up my gas.

It's possible to disable the front drive line that way.. But...your XJ was calibrated for fulltime 4x, by eliminating the drive shaft you might have problems with the computer/sensors. You could disable the full time with an adapter kit to make it part time. I believe Quadratrac sells one.

If you have a Cherokee full time, it is Selc-Trac and disengages when the lever is in 2wd....only the front axle turns not the transfer case. Do not confuse this with the Grand Cherokee.

Easiest way for better gas milage is taller tires...higher ratio....less power and acceleration though. Say 235/75 instead of the stock 225/75-15. Cheaper just to put gas in it...

I am a retired delear technician and I DO NOT believe mechanical parts and labor can be a cost effective solution for "better" gas milage.

Better to sell it and get a HONDA CRV or ELEMENT (or trade it in).
