Headlights wont shut off
i have an 88 chevy sprint metro. hopefully you can help. my headlights will stay on even when i switch them off. sometimes while im driving the brights will flash too. after i drive it for a while sometimes they turn off but i have to unhook the battery everytime im not driving. i put in a new combo switch but that didnt do the trick and ive tried undoing all kinds of wire connections with no luck. HELP PLEASE!

Re: Headlights wont shut off
My guess is that you may have a relay stuck.

You can't find the relay cause it doesn't exist. Your column switch handles the entire electrical load of the lighting. Unfortunately, yours prolly melted, and fused itself into the ON postition inside. You need a new column switch.

Re: Headlights wont shut off
If all else fails, rewire.
You should be able to tie the on/off switch to the high/low switch. Then run it to two relays. One for highs and one for lows. Then let the relays control the power to the lights. It'll take a BIG load off the switches on the dashboard and improve the brightness of your lights. I have an 84 Toyota Van that the headlight relay had a poor connection to the fusebox. So I did what I just said and they work better than ever. I used 10 gauge wiring too.I have a friend who drives a Geo Metro. So I know some about them. But not much. |
