91 GT 1.8 Interchangeable Tranny?

I have a buddy who has a 91 Escort GT and the tranny is messed up wont go into anyother gear than 1st. well my question is what all years and model's are Interchangeable? It has the 1.8 DOHC 5 Speed Tranny

Sorry, I can't hep except to suggest you call your local Auto salvage yard and ask if they have a replacement....they have an Interchangeable book and will be able to tell you what will fit.

Any '91 - '95 GT model will work. Those had the 1.8 liter Mazda engine. And only the GT trannies will bolt up I've heard. So a tranny from an LX in those years WILL NOT work. Just look for another GT tranny from a salvage yard.

Last message left was totally correct except its 91-96 escort GT's with 1.8L or a mercury tracer LTS with the 1.8L will fit as well, hope this helps

the tranny's CANT work on GT from the LX or vise versa b/c there 2 totally different tranny's from different manufacts. sorry
