91 Civic - Distributor Rotor Meltdown?

Hello Everyone,
I am new to this forum - first post. My son's 91 Civic has had two distributor rotor melt downs within a month. Each time the plastic at the base of the rotor, only as high up as the metal bushing insert, has melted - of course the car stops running. The distributor cap is not at all damaged nor is there any foreign matter in the distributor. The engine oil level is full and the engine does not overheat. The set screw that holds the rotor onto the distributor shaft remains tightly threaded and the shaft has no scars. What can be causing this? Do I need to get the car exorcised?? To see pictures of the rotor and metal bushing please copy and paste the following in your browser: http://www.fishauthority.com/MELTEDROTOR.htm

ive seen it before, it was the internal coil that was overheating. when the coil got really hot, it melted the rotor, and eventually the wires for the sensors. we converted to an external MSD blaster2 coil and never had the problem again.

incucivic,
Thanks for your response. I have to ask you if you looked at the pictures of the melted rotor? I was wondering if the rotor you mentioned melted in the same area - at the base - or did it melt at the top or both?
