Bmw ///m3
Alright..well my friend is most likely going to be getting a 1997-8 M3 this summer and after paying more attention I realized I dont know really anything about BMWs in general...what does a 98 run in the quarter? Does it take mods pretty well? Ive also heard mixed reviews about reliability...How come more people dont mod them? I heard they were pretty fast and the older ones arnt that expensive, overall I think they are pretty nice looking cars inside and out. Thanks

Ya know whats funny, more people care about BMWs than about Fords. Hes a mid 90s BMW, so that makes it an E36, so its a low to mid 14, high 13 1/4, dependant on driver/

Yes they take well to mods but most people dont know that. Also they are still pretty exspensive. And only recently have they become more affordable.

Actually, the '98 came with the new gizmos on it, so it's holding its value better than the pre-'97 E36s. It mods very nicely and has lots and lots of power. It is VERY fast, but upgrades for BMWs are much more expensive than upgrades for the average Mustang/F-Body/rice-rocket. The BMW guys are all about some autocrossing, so your friend will have the mucho hook up when it comes to legal racing. And, with a little money, an ///M3 can smoke just about anything on the road in a street race short of an Audi S-series or a pony car.
One of my best friends has a Cosmos Black 1995 ///M3 with: Dinan racing chip Sparco strut tower braces UUC x-brace Borla exhaust Sparco racing seats (saved 80lbs over the Vaders!!) C/F CAI Koni adjustable coilovers UUC C/F rear wing OZ Superleggera 18x8 w/ Yokohama ES100 widened throttle-body camber plates -3º camber all the way around That thing will do 120mph on the loops of the tightest cloverleaf exit in central Texas, and scare all the passengers $#itless in the process.

I digress to say that stock, the new ones can smoke just about anything on the road in their class already, save the Z06 Vettes and RS4 Audi. However, they all take to mods real well, and its easy to find a lower priced mid to high miliage pre 97. I think the only difference from 97 on was the computer (OBDI->OBDII). Sabre, where did your freind get his work done? Most of the places in Texas I've gone to refuse to do either Rouge Engineering or UUC work, say that their stuff is pretty shoddy.
