Ignition Switch on a 95 Golf

Could someone please tell me how to remove an ignition switch out of a 95 Golf. Or pinpoint me to a website that would tell me how.

Re: Ignition Switch on a 95 Golf

Disarm & remove airbag and steering wheel. Remove screws for signal & wiper switch & remove. If automatic remove the shift interlock cable. Disconnect ignition switch electrical harness then remove the clamping washer, spring and contact ring from the shaft. Remove the housing clamp bolt and slide the housing off the shaft. There is a screw that holds the electrical part of the switch in the housing.

what step am i missing? i have airbag removed-removed steering wheel-removed turn signal and wipers-removed a fairly big screw from the clamp-THE HOUSING wont come off-i'm looking at(starting at the housing)a spring, 2" of metal pipe, then a O with grooves for where the steering wheel goes. HOW DO YOU GET THIS PIECE OFF!!?? i played with it for an hour and decided not to force it. any tips would be SWEET

Thumbs up

I had the same problem as the top mount for the steering wheel does not come off the shaft . I disconnected the universal at the end of the steering shaft and removed the steering lock and shaft complete. you can then just get access to the screw that holds the switch. Hope this helps

You actually have to "pull" the whole ignition switch off he steering shaft with a bearing puller. THen press the switch back on the shaft.
