Possible Move to Cali...College & Location questions

Hey guys, well I was talking to my dad and he knows I'm big into cars , and he suggested that maybe next year I should go to college in CA. I couldn't believe it myself, and atfirst I was like whats a country living New Yorker( I live about about an hour 30 mins from the city, but have only been down there for school trips, and once with exchange students). I'm not use to a Big city at all. Also I'm currenty at a 2 year college and my major is Business Marketing. So my questions are where would you guys suggest for someone that isnt used to the whole Big city scene, and also what colleges are good for Business Marketing? Thanks guys I appreciate all of your help.

hmm.. mayb fresno state.. not to big city.

If u want a business degree, and a So Cali location but not a big city atmosphere (but close to two cities) i suggest San Marcos State.

San Diego State is all about business degress but is to impacted. so most people end up going to San Marcos since is still in San Diego county. However San Marcos is still a pretty new universiy, which is still expanding.. so lots of construction..

could mean a bad thing or a good... i say look at it a a good thing. U'll get all the new equipement and new buildings....

For business, there's always Cal-Poly Pomona as well, it's one of the best business programs in the So. Cali area for schools. It's not too big out there, and it's about 30 miles from LA. So not too bad.

My Recommendation:

Continue your research but plan a trip out here just to check things out and tour the schools while they are in session. The colleges and communities vary widely… from very urban feel to very rural. When you visit you will pretty much get a feel right away if it is a good fit for you. Your choices may be limited if the programs are impacted (closed to out-of-staters), so be sure to contact the colleges early in your planning.

Tuitions vary, the Cal State system seems to be the most reasonable, but you will have to pay out-of-state tuition for a least a year (or more).

Find out how many of your units will transfer into California. I’ve heard nightmare stories… so once again.. do your research.

I got a business degree from Cal Poly Pomona. The college was a great transition for me (lived in the Midwest, now live near the beach in Los Angeles). I have no regrets for moving out here.

The car scene out here is incredible…. !!!!

Good luck

San Luis Obispo is a great school, i know like three ppl goin there. I'm gonna ask around to the friends i know go to schools not mentioned already. There are alot of schools in Cali, like nearing 400 colleges and universities. And, just as a side remark, i was checking out San Marcos too. They apparently have a decent English department, so since thats my major im currently considering that as one of my transfer schools.

Another note: When you come down for the trip, dont forget to check out some local community colleges. The one year for residency is gonna be a bitz on your wallet if you jump right in. And if those credits dont transfer over, thats a good way to make em up cheap style.

The best business schools in california include UC Berkeley (Hoss Business School) and the University of San Francisco (MacLaren School of Business) with USF running you $32,000 a year and Berkeley running you $17,000 a year. Of course, there is always financial aid if you qualify.
