0-60 1/14 mile time

i have a 2001 Silverado extended cab short bed 4x4 with a k&n high flow air filter and a flowmater american thunder exhaust system. My horsepower is now about 320 and my torque is now about 400 out of my 6.0l with the mods. Can anyone tell me what my 0-60 and 1/4 mile time is?

I wouldn't count on your hp/tq to jump that much with just those mods. You started out with 300 hp and 360 lbs-tq, and with the air filer and exhaust, you probably have maybe 310 hp and 370 or so lbs-tq. And that's being very ambitous. Now if you had the air intake you might could claim 315 hp, but still, those simple bolt-ons don't give no where near the advertised gains.

Anyways, there's only one way to really find out what your 1/4 time is, and that's take it to a track. I honestly don't even know what a 3/4 ton truck will run in the 1/4, but it would be slower then a 1/2 ton with the 5.3, and they typically go 15.7-16.0 (according to other people anywyas, I've never seen one run).

So if I was guessing, I'd say you'd be somewhere in the mid to low 16 second range, but I really have no idea.

Re: 0-60 1/14 mile time

i started with 300 horsepower and 370 lbs. of torque, the 2500hd silverados have 360 lbs. of toque probably due to the more powerful alternator

The alternator does not have a single thing to do with the hp & tq output of your engine.

Unless you have a GMC Denali, you got the same 300 hp, 360 lbs-tq Vortec 6.0 as the 2500HDs have (and even if you had it, you'd still only have 365 lbs-tq, but with 320 hp).

Either way, even if you did have 370 lbs-tq, the drop in filter and exhaust wouldn't give you 30 lbs-tq.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass towards you, I'm just saying don't believe these aftermarket companies when they claim 15-20 hp from a drop in filter, and 15-20 hp from an exhaust system. And surely don't add them up becuase you have both mods. A drop in filter, along with a bigger throttle body, full exhaust (including headers and cats) only gives an LS1 a little over 30 or so rwhp, and that's with a manual transmission.

Basically, your drop in filter might have given you 5 hp, and your exhaust might have given you 5-8 hp.

And actually, the alternator or any accessory item would effect the horsepower of an engine, however that's already accounted for when the factory rates them. That's why you never see drag cars with alternators, manual water pumps, manual fans, power steering, etc.

Re: 0-60 1/14 mile time

Standing in line at the auto parts store today, I saw a segment on the in-store network that said even the best air filters (I assumed K&N, but maybe some other brand) will only add 3-5 hp. And that's if the engine can barely breathe stock.

That is pretty much what i meant, a larger alternator or any other larger/ more powerful acessory that you install in place of a factory one will not make any differnece.

That was my answer.
