2007 Skyline
I've been reading around and people say that the new skyline will probaly use a Twin Turbo V6 or a NA V8. Both will make around 300+ BHP. If so then what motor would you get in yours?

Re: 2007 Skyline
im assuming you are talking about the new GT-R. the skyline and GT-R are now completly separate cars. if youd bother to read the other threads on this, although the v8 rumor is still a possibility, nissan is more than likley going with a vq32dett or a vq30dett and make 400+ horsepower. ill take whatever they put in it. doesnt matter to me much.

Re: 2007 Skyline
The funny thing about the V8 rumor is that people in the US were the ones that started it. It's hardly been mentioned in Japan at all.
With all the details about the VQ(electronically assisted turbos, semi-wet sump, etc), shouldn't we have heard something on a V8(VK or otherwise) if it were going to happen? Higher compression, displacement, hotter cams, something. Instead, we've heard nothing. One reason the V8 is unlikely is because the V6 will have better weight distribution. Another consideration is that in Japan, I think they are taxed based on cylinders and displacement. A 3.2L V6 is going to raise taxes for customers as it is. Can you imagine how it would be with a 4L+ V8? Some say that the V8 will just be for the US. Well, that means Nissan would have to develop, test and produce two different engines. Not very cost effective. Besides, there will apparently be another sports car with a V8. It is supposed to slot between the 350Z and GT-R in performance, which could likely be a coupe version of the new Infiniti M45. So, a twin turbo VQ is probably it. Possibly as much as 480ps(~473hp), and a curb weight as low as 1390kg(~3064lbs). With those kinds of specs, the GT-R has some serious potential.

Re: 2007 Skyline
A v8 would destroy the weight disturbution on the FM platform wouldn't it.

Using a V8 also might even require a different front suspension. The FX35/45 uses a different setup than the G35s and 350Z, possibly because of the V8's size. I'm not sure if the new M35/45 does it too.

Re: 2007 Skyline
I'd rather see the VQ but i'm a turbo guy so. Although the VK has defintly shown its self in this years JGTC. Who knows we've got like another year to 2 b4 the next skyline comes out so who knows what is coming.

not in any nissan cars. the xanavi and motul nismo z's were using a vq32dett. which is why its the practical engine choice, the R&D is already done.

Re: 2007 Skyline
This is what Car and Driver had to say:
The illustration below depicts the upcoming Nissan Skyline GT-R. The GT-R version of the Skyline has always been a special high-performance offering in Nissan's lineup, and this one will continue that tradition. The GT-R probably has the record for the number of car-mag stories about a vehicle that has never been available in the U.S., and it remains high on our wish list. Built on a new platform that is not shared with the standard-model Skyline, or Infiniti G35 coupe, as it's known stateside, it will likely make the GT-R far more expensive than run-of-the-mill G35 coupes. There are conflicting reports out of Japan regarding the powerplant. One camp believes the GT-R will be powered by a Cosworth-developed twin-turbo version of the current 3.5-liter V-6, offering at least 450 horsepower. Others believe a new twin-turbo 3.2-liter V-6 will get the call. To make sure the GT-R has supercar handling, chassis engineers from Lotus were selected to develop its steering, suspension, and drivetrain. Could this special Skyline so long denied to U.S. enthusiasts finally come to the States? "G35 GT-R" has a certain ring to it, but it's up to Nissan or Infiniti's product planners to decide whether it will come to our shores. |

Re: 2007 Skyline
Well I just heard it and in my opinion it will use a V6 twin turbo because it weighs less.

Re: 2007 Skyline
If a V8 was put in it would be okay but they probaly won't beacause how high the gas prices are and if you knew how hight the prices are in Japan (I think it is around 5 bucks a gallon) they'll probaly stick with the twin turbo v6 and not even worry about the V8. It's a good car with the V6 and it dosen't need a V8. Then if they put a V8 in they would need to replace alot of the Drivetrain in order to handle the power and torque it wouldn't be very cost effective like the one guy said and they probaly won't do much to the motor but what should I say im not Nissan they could all suprise us with an optional V8. But if I was Nissan I would give the optional V8 to anyone who wanted it, but over in Japan no one would want the V* (most likely not) they want to rip apart their little I4 and build them up to be ricers and street racers without paying high insurance. (I'm not saying I4's suck because I said their little) If I bought a Skyline I would want the V6, better feul economy and a V8 would ruin the sound of them and it would feel like more of a muscle car, but it would make the handling a lot different than the lighter cars and probaly woudn'y be as fast but they probaly would. If I was Nissan I would keep the Twin turbo V6 and give the option of a Standard V8 or turbocharged V8 one of the two and thats what I think.
