Unhappy 1999 escort se 2.0 sohc no spark

I just bought a 99 escort from the auction it gets no spark or injector pulse. I changed the master control relay ( located under the air cleaner) but that was no help. If the crank possition sensor is bad will that also cause the no spark and no injector pulse? Any suggestions ????
The car has 51k on it.

The CPS is only about a $25 part and is not hard to change. You have to remove the plastic inner fender on the passenger side. Disconnect the battery and the CPS. It is secured with two bolts, remove the bolts and the old CPS and reinstall the new one reconnect everything, reinstall the inner fender and you should have the problem solved.

Was there ever a ground problem with model car, it almost seems like it could be a bad ground as well. I hate to just keep throwing parts at the car.

Re: 1999 escort se 2.0 sohc no spark

This sounds like an ignition problem not necessarily a gounding problem. Grounding problems can happen on any car but if the car turns over and you are getting fuel but no spark and injector pulse there are only a few options. The CPS, the Cam position sensor, coil or the ECM. None of which cost a lot of money. On an Escort you can practically replace the entire ignition system for less than $250. A lot cheaper than a new car. As recommended I would replace the CPS first as it would account for both of the issues you describe.
