1989 F150 with no 5th or reverse
Hello, I have a 1989 F150 with a 6 cylinder and a 5 speed that I got from one of my friends. The problem is that it has no 5th gear and pops out of reverse whenever I try to use it. I am thinking that a shift fork got bent when he was trying to pull his friends car out of frozen mud. It worked fine beforehand and the rest of the gears work fine too. However, I am not sure. So any imput would be greatly appreciated.

you dont have 5th at all? it may be the sliding sleeve or the fork either way you will have to tear it down to fix it

When I try to put it into 5th it is like it was never there. How much difficulty/money would it be?

you would be better off to find a used one. if its 2wd and if you have the right tools you could swap it out in 2 to 3 hours
