Unhappy Transmission Troubles

Took my '99 GTP to a mechanic to check out a bucking problem when in overdrive. He told me that that when he put t on his computer, it showed two transmission trouble codes. Unfortunately he does not do transmission work and could not fully explain what the two codes could mean. They are the following:

P1573 - PCM Serial Link Circuit
P1811 - Long Shift

He also said there was a shift error from 2nd to 3rd gear.

Now I know that the PCM is the computer, so is this more likely a computer malfunction or an actual problem with the transmission?

Re: Transmission Troubles

It is very possible that the problem lies in the PCM but I would suggest that you take the car to a tranny shop. They will be able to tell you what the problem is very quickly. Cottman, AAMCO or any local transmission shop should be able to help you. They will usually run a diagnosis for a reasonable price. If you decide to do this let us know what the found as you may be able to help someone else.
