Car Won't Start!!

as some of you know, i've been having problems getting my car to start. it's a '95 eclipse rs automatic.

the car will not fire up! it turns over fine but will not start. all the sensors are connected, all hoses hooked up, 40 psi fuel pressure, brand new plugs (gapped right) wires and coilpack and i am getting spark. is there anything that would cause it not to start besides the timing being off? it's a new motor, 70k (to me anyways) that i just installed and i installed a new timing belt but it started up right away the first time but now it won't start. any ideas, anyone??

are you sure that the timing belt was dead on the marks?sometimes even if the belt is a couple teeth off it will probly start then shut off after it bend some valves then it will not start again.just check everything over because its most of the time something stupid overloooked.

Re: Car Won't Start!!

i did the timing belt when i put it in and it ran perfect and then after it would warm up and i shut it off, it wouldn't start again until it "cooled down" and one day it just wouldn't start.

Re: Car Won't Start!!

Hey man check your oil pump. Thats what happend to me.. we replaced everything new and in the end it was the oil pump. Check that because if the head isnt getting any oil to it.. then the oil sensor will send a signal to the Ecu... and the ECU will shut off the motor causing it not to start.

Re: Car Won't Start!!

by the way the car will crank and spark but it wont fire because the oil sensor isnt sensing any oil going to the head. Well im tryin to help. let me know how it goes.

Re: Car Won't Start!!

if it has spark, compression, and fuel it should "run" under any circumstances just because of laws of physics and chemistry. ANYWAYS......

I checked the timing today and it appeared to be fine but I re-did three times just to make sure it's dead on and it should be correct now. I did a compression check and these are the numbers that I got. 95 Eclipse Non-Turbo Automatic

20 50 105 50

anyone know what the fuck would be causing these numbers in the first place to be so low, and secondly to be so different? I need to get this running asap because i have someone looking to buy it.

Re: Car Won't Start!!

man Its got to be your oil pump. My problem was the same as your... it cranks..sparks but no fire... ECU works. I took us almost 1 year to figure out the problem. If your oil pump isnt sending oil to your heads... then the oil sensor will send a signal to the ECU to shut off the engine and it will just crank. Thats what i did.

Re: Car Won't Start!!

Those compression numbers suck. There might not be enough compression to support combustion. Whats wrong with it is hard to say. Bent valves usually result in 0 compression in that cylinder, low numbers like that are often head gasket, or damaged pistons, in my experience. There are many potential modes of failure though. Leak down test might be your next course of action.

Re: Car Won't Start!!

you should look at the timing belt again, maybe its not lined up perfectly, maybe the valves are open a little when there not supposed to be and thats what's giving those different comp. numbers. Or you raced the piss out of it and that's what messed your piston rings up.

Re: Car Won't Start!!

my car fucking sucks. I went out to start work on it lastnight and started it just to see if it would start for no reason and after cranking over for a few times it started so i let it run for awhile. Shut it off and now it doesn't start. I re-did the timing AGAIN and it's dead on, as close as can be. I ran a compression check with the timing dead on and they're even lower numbers than before.
5 20 80 15

what the fuck!!

I got a different compression tester thinking mine was fucked but it's not. I also picked up a cylinder leakage tester today and I have 80% leakage in number one and I can move the timing around in number two to get around 35% leakage. Number one leakage is coming from the dipstick so that means fried rings or a nice hole in my piston. It also sounds like some is coming from the spark plug holes. WHAT'S MY PROBLEM!!!! My idea is rings on number 1 and valves on number 2. I didn't check the other two cylinders cause I was so frustrated. Is my guess right?? Because I don't want to pull apart the motor and replace the rings/pistons if i don't have to.

Anyone got any ideas?

Re: Car Won't Start!!

pull some of your throttle connecting sensors off one by one and try to start the car , when i replaced my motor it did the same thing .
and I pulled off a sensor lead now it runs fine .

Re: Car Won't Start!!

rings were stuck, that's why i had no compression and 80% leakage in all cylinders but one. the one that had decent compression had 1 ring that wasn't stuck. i ordered new rings and they should be here tuesday. hopefully this solves my problem.

Rings or what?

Did you find out if the rings were bad or not. Just got a new head and it did the same thing. PLEASE LET ME KNOW! At this point I will pay for info! I need to know whether to replace rings or oil pump. I have replaced crankshaft and camshaft sensors, timing belt twice and still not running. It ran a little while maybe 15 miles after replacing the head.

If any answers I'll be VERY GRATEFUL!!!

Thanks!
