DC ceramic header

hey, my dc ceramic header is starting to look like absolute shit. Its become covered in orangish speckeled rust. I know its not hurting performance, buts its not really an eye pleaser. Is there anyway I can get this thing looking like new again, and keep it that way.

If not i'm thinkin about getting some of that header wrap or making a heat shield out of this tin stuff I have.

Any ideas/comments/

thanks,
Joe

I think you should just get that header wrap. It also improves ur performance cause it cools the header down. You shouldn't worry how it looks unless ur going for show?

try simple green to remove it or possibly some paint thinner to remove that color. That's my only $0.02 on it.

Um actually I believe it improves performance because it keeps the headers hot. Sept it can be bad for them cus your headers were not made not handle the extra heat that is going to be trapped in. Thats just info I got elsewere on this board.

yeah,
the wrap works by superheating your headers and the gasses inside to produce greater flow. it also keeps you engine bay cooler which is also a plus. if you do i think you should probably replace your oxygen sensors at the same time because im sure the increased heat is gonna tear apart the ones you got if they have any age to em.
also, engine wrap makes your header die sooner because the rust through sooner and the high temp breaks em down

later

That's why I am going to get Stainless steel baby. Plus I like the way it looks when they change color.

actually, you got that backwards.. header wrap keeps the ENGINE BAY cooler by keeping the heat of the header IN THE HEADER

in other words it will accelerate the degradation of the header

it has nothing to do with gas flow or anything like that.. the header wrap only makes power by insulating the engine bay from the exhaust heat (hence making intake air temps cooler)

if you want the performance without the voided warantee, wrap the header wrap around your CAI (or if you dont care about the header warantee, wrap it around both the header AND the intake)

if he wants a header that will last he should get a stainless one. the DC ceramic header is just ceramic coated mild steel
