chevy 350 guys

Hey hows it going fellas. I was wondering if you guys might be able to help me with getting some more HP on my 350. I actually have a '79 Z28, but I know that there are alot of similarites under the hoods. Surprisingly enough i wasn't able to get any good answers at the camaro forum. I have a Rochester Q-jet,some headers and dual exhaust but with glass packs. Any suggestions would be a real help. I heard you could swap some 69-72 heads and get a decent boost, but I need someone to verify if this is true. My budget is about a 1,200 dollars. Little stuff or big I'm open to any suggestions/tips. Thanks fellas, keep up the good work.

In 1979 the Z28 was rated at 175 bph and 270 ft./lbs of torque, which is consistent with other cars in its time. I think, heads are the key. Maybe a good set of aftermarket heads and a new intake. Another idea is a good camshaft selection. This would definitley help out just don't get too radical or you have to start worrying about the bottom end. These 350's were "de-tuned" for insurance and EPA reasons. They just need to breath a little better. Just my 2 cents. Others probably know more than I do.

Re: chevy 350 guys

Yeah, I must say I was veerry diappointed when i saw that this car only put out that kind of power. I barely found out about a week ago. I always assumed it was a "muscle car." It sounds good. I've had my supervisor suggest a new cam as well. Do you guys have any suggestios when it comes to selecting a good came? As you said I don't wanna get to radical and end up throwing another problem on it. Anybody think I can break 300 with my $1,200 dollar budget? I've got a new 350 and thats about it so far.

Re: chevy 350 guys

Check into an Edelbrock performer system. Might cost you a little more than 1200, but you can go in stages.
ie. carb intake cam, timing chain set, later on heads.
