Transmission - Next Step

Hello, I am a newbie here but I have a transmission problem on my 1995 Eagle Talon ESI. It would not shift into 4 or OD so I was told I needed a new transmission. So I got the new transmission installed which through off my speedometer which is fine because I don't look at it anyways until I see blue lights.... it did good for about 6 months and it started doing the same kind of thing so I replaced the transmission while under the replacement warranty. Now after 3 months it is doing it again and I am tried of spending the money to get the transmissions installed... I have been told it could be the computer or a sensor... I am asking anyone for any type of advise because I am just about to trash it.... PLEASE help.... Anyone in NC that would be interested in taking a look please holla....

Thanks

When you had it "replaced" did you see them put a new or freshly rebuilt one back? I ask this because I know alot of times the transy shops will say they did, charge you like they did, then just change the filter and tighten up the "bands" in it. They usually get away with this crap becuase people don't know s--t when it comes to trannys. hell I don't even know if your trans even has bands, so I can't help to much. But your case sounds worse for some reason. Did they replace the TC?

If you've had to replace a few times, I wouldn't be too impressed with their work.

I was on a thousand mile roadtrip to Oregon from Ca in my 1990 Ford Taurus station wagon (sexy) when I lost three transmissions within 100 miles! Ended up being faulty transmissions from the factory. If you want to prolong the life of a tranmission, John from IPT (nice guy) has a great post here: http://dsmtuner.com/forums/showthread.php?t=105099.

So, maybe just bad company you're dealing with, maybe a strain of bad trannies, maybe making some preventative maintainence changes will bring the beast back to life.

My car wouldn't shift into OD for awhile, a common reason is the end clutch. The kit to fix is cheap at 80 bucks. You'd be doing a very doable, partial tranny rebuild. Great site and even better walk through is here, http://www.plymouthlaser.com/ec.htm. You have to get the kit specific to your transmission. I believe this one is yours (off the directly above link) ECLIPSE 95-98 4 SPEED FWD L4 2.0L 41TE (A604). Swapping the entire transmission the first time should have solved this, but at least try this before you trash your car.

Replace your TC, they're cheap on e-bay. I don't know what sensors are involved. You can check what codes your tranny is throwing, which should help, following advice here, http://www.plymouthlaser.com/tcucodes.htm. Obviously do this before you change out your TC.

Lastly, sign up at www.dsmtuners.com and ask this in their Automatic forum. This is a great site, but there's a greater pool of people over there with auto's to chip in and help.

Edit>> Definitely look into how the tranny was rebuilt, as the smart guy above me said. Are you sure the filter has been changed? How about the fluid? I was assuming so. Do that first, if not.

I agree with the previous remark. Mechanics can be very sneeky like that. It could be a band problem. Maybe an end clutch problem. Whenever I have a transmission problem I call and talk to John from Import performance Transmissions. Try giving him a call. 1-866-828-7267..Chances are he can tell you what the problem is and he can give you a price on parts to fix it.

Check out their website www.importperformancetransmissions.com
