Re: 331 or 347 stroker motor

A friend has an '88 LX with a 347. Heads are Canfields (Light port work by myself, 1.94/1.50 valves, flowed great out of the box...just cleaned up and smoothed radius'), 750 carb, solid lifter cam (specs. I'd have to ask), around 10.3:1 comp I believe, can't recall other specs, but could ask. Auto., lauching at 3500, 4.10 rear, 2600 lbs dry, ran 10.60 1/4. I've flow tested many types of heads (stock 5.0 to trick flows, and even hemi's)...very impressed with Canfields. Keep it all matched and find someone who really knows heads in your area. A good rear suspension (toss the factory lower arms and get some that correct the instant center point), and a rigid chassis are a must. Good luck.

My 82. U can see the stuff at the bottom. the biggest gains r from Edelbrock Victor jr heads (or brodix) and a holley double pumper carb. dont go edelbrock with the carb (they r 2 streeetable and emission carbs) 3.73 in rear 4 street. 347 is a better stroker of course. stronger 4 what i heard. racing cam. i bought a x303 on my stock bottom end. thats about it. good clutch 2.

If you are going to stay N/A, I would go with AFR185s, and run a fairly high compression. If you are going to use boost, build with a lower compression, and use 205s.

These guys know their shit!
