Question Skid Plates

I need an opinion on which skid plate to get first. The rear diff skid plate or the engine/transmission skid plate. They're both equally important, but I can only get one right now. I'm thinking the rear diff because of it hanging down.

Thanks.

Jeff

Your rear diff is a heavy thick piece of metal already. I have all of the Skid-Row plates (even gas tank) and have never considered buying a diff-skid.

If you've only got a little money, buy the Pathfinder t-case skid. That's $30 or something like that, brand new. If you've got more, go to www.skidplates.com and start working your way up to a full set of plates.

Where can I get the Pathfinder T-case skid at for $30?? I'm also getting rock sliders. I read a few posts that the calmini sliders are good. Is this true??

Re: Skid Plates

Forget the diff skid, it's absolutely unnecessary. I've dragged and bonked my rear diff something nasty and it's no worse for it other than the drain plug being a bit mangled.

The Pathfinder/Hardbody t-case skid is no substitute for a real skid, but it's better than nothing. It's available from the dealer:

The calmini ones are fine. It depends on what you want out of the slider. Calmini is tight in on the body. Shrockworks is farther out. Personally I like a protruding slider as it helps negotiate around rocks better IMO.

Re: Skid Plates

Start out front to rear. Those pans(oil/tranny) are way vunerable to damage over that rear diff.

Thanks guys for your help. I guess the price for the skid plates and Shrockworks sliders are about the same price across the board. Only reason I'm concerned about prices is because I'm getting married in July. My part is payed for, but wifey doesn't think I should be spending money on what she considers needless things. I did see the skid row skid plates cheaper at xterraparts.com, so I'll probably get them there.

Thanks.

Jeff

She's not your wife yet. Better get that stuff fast.

Tell her real diamond rings aren't "necessary" either if it's just a symbol of your commitment to each other. Get a cubic zerconia.

Re: Skid Plates

I have to beg my wife to spend a cent on my X. She sees it as perfectly good how it is. I see it as much more in the future. The minute I told her I wanted to put a 3'' susp. lift on, she said no way cuz when she drives it, she won't be able to park in her garage at work. I'll see to it she never drives it again after I lift it because she'd roll it!

LOL.....I would've have tried that, but being a typical woman, they can pick a fake out of a million diamonds.

The set-up we have is, I have my own checking account and she has hers. We split the house/utility payments, so after they are payed I don't care what she spends her money on. She still nags when I buy stuff my the X, but not to much.

Re: Skid Plates

I didn't know that. I'm actually picking up the engine/trans plate from swampwrecker @ www.maxc.org. Hopefully I'll get it this weekend when we go over to Pine Barren for a run. I'm also getting a set of sliders from Todd @ EOE. Should have them in a few weeks.

Are you going to ECXC Dave??

Re: Skid Plates

No actually I was not planning on it, I dont think I have enough mods to my truck to keep it from getting damaged. Where is ECXC at anyways?

Friday, it's at Paragon..........Saturday and Sunday it's at Rausch Creek.

Michael said last year there were quiet a few stockers there. There are also different level trails, so you wouldn't have to worry about your X getting damaged.

Here is the website.....www.ecxc.com
