I am have been using a large amount of fuel lately and when i took it to a mechanic, he stated that it could be one of two things. the first be a new fuel pump, or the second a new computer since when he tried to hook the Scanner up to the truck, there was no power. would a blown fuse be the reason why there was no power to the scanner?

Re: 2001 S-10 Blazer problems
Don't go back to that mechanic....it could be lots of things he just picked the ones that would make him the most money.
Is the SES light on? When was the last time it had a tune-up? Does it run okay? Any spitting, sputtering, or stalling? Rough idle? Do you smell fuel? Where does the temperature gauge read when it is warmed up? |

I don't know that your mechanic really knows what he's talking about, there are dozens of things that can cause excessive fuel consuption, but I don't believe that a bad fuel pump will cause excessive fuel consuption. Was this mechanic at a licensed garage? If possible you might take this into a different garage before spending a dime and get a second opinion. Both of these "Fixes" are expensive, high dollar fixes that might not be your problem! Post back with as much information as you can and be as specific as possible. There are many mechanics on this Forum that will help steer you in the right direction. |

Re: 2001 S-10 Blazer problems
Don't go back to that mechanic, since when does a friggin fuel pump cause bad mileage.
What an idiot. Start by doing the normal things like a tuneup.

sorry for the lack of information, currently when i first start it up after it being off for a while it will hard start. my check engine light came on a while ago and a Mecanic at Jiffy Lube told me it was an External Emmitions problem.. He seemed clueless as well as I. so he reset the computer and it hasnt come on since. other then that, like i said i have not smelled raw gas anywhere. and when i conducted a pressure test, when i start the vehicle i am sapose to have 60psi and it should then go down to 3-10psi but when we did my vehicle, it stays at 60psi. i hope all of this information can help you guys.

Re: 2001 S-10 Blazer problems
Where exactly does the temp gauge go....1/4....1/2? This is pretty important because stuck thermostats are common on these vehicles, if the thermostat is stuck open it won't allow the system to warm up enough to enter closed loop...this will hurt fuel economy. If stuck it may get real close to the right temperature, but just not quite enough to go into closed loop. We should rule this out before going into any more complex problems. A tune-up would probably help out...how many miles are on it? A bottle of techron may show some improvement too.

Re: 2001 S-10 Blazer problems
The pressure stays the same when started? How about if you rev the engine a little?
Not changing when started indicates a problem with either the regulator or the vacuum line going to it. |

there are 68,000 on the blazer, and the tempreture gage goes to 1/2

well its not a vacume line cause we ruled that out. but either way it will be spendy since the fuel regulator is in the tank

Re: 2001 S-10 Blazer problems
Temp is fine. You are just a little past the recommended time for a tune-up, so you will probably see a slight improvement.

No the fuel pump, pulsator, and sending unit are in the tank. The regulator is on the engine.

Re: 2001 S-10 Blazer problems
Nothing wrong with the fuel system, so leave it alone. PERIOD
Go and do a tuneup. You know you haven't done it, you know it needs it, THEN WHY ARE YOU NOT DOING IT AND TRYING TO FIND SOME OTHER SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM.
