Rear Glass striker broke off!!!! Help!

This is something that seems to be just poorly designed. As I was getting my school books out of my 1998 Chevy Blazer today, I opened the rear glass and noticed that the striker was no longer attached to my window. It literally broke off of the glass, and was still intact in the latch. It appears as though it may have been held on by some sort of adhesive, and now I realized that it must have been this way for a while because it would not close hard enough to hit the switch and turn the lights off. Do you think I could just get some rear view mirror adhesive and use that? Because I have to say it would be a bit rediculous for me to have to buy an entire new glass panel just so I can keep it shut. Thanks a lot for your help!

I don't think it is glued. It should bolt on to the black handle on the outside of the window. At least my 2000 attaches that way.

Try the rear view mirror adhesive. What have you got to loose? be sure to clean both surfaces real good. Let us know how it works.

I decided to go ahead and use JB Weld, so tomorrow I shall let you know how it works out. I just want to know, how does GM get away with some of this garbage? I mean securing a striker by means of adhesive? How can that sound right in anyones mind?

Did the JB Weld work on this? Same thing happened to my daughters 98 blazer.

It did work yes, but it is extremely tedious to get it to work. It doesn't stick to the glass very well, so it came off about 3 or 4 times before I finally got it to stick. The best advice I can give you is just sand the back of the striker really well, and be prepared to do it a few times!

ahhh jb weld, the endless possibilites, reminds me of a senior prank with every lock + lots of people + several tubes of jb weld = many angry staff members. good times

This recently happened on a buddies truck...We had to replace the whole rear glass (fortunatly I had an extra one)...

It really is a poor design to say the least....
