I think I have a kaput ingition switch ...

97 PA-U.

Problem began with the dashboard lights doing their POST cycle while driving - fun. Engine kept running tho, so just a light show.

Now, inside of 2 weeks, I've progressed the the point where turning the key results in a dead-battery-like click with a gauge show! All the little dials flip around and parade for me. Couple turns of the key later, we have ignition.

I'm relatively convinced it's the Ig Sw and needs to be replaced.

My question is whether this is a job for the well equipped home monkey, or whether a GM shop needs to do the job because of the theft protection pass-key system.

free advice always welcomed.

Kent

Check to see if the switch is not loose, you'll find it on the steering column just below the key cylinder, yes the do go bad, never replaced one on GM, but had one melt down on a mini van once, all your switched power goes thru it, especially on older models, when the use of relays was limited, not sure about yours, yes a well equipped monkey can do it..cheers
