Chevy engine timeline

I am looking for a comprehensive list of GM engines by year and what changes were made year by year. In the early days of small block Chevy all parts were interchangable. In the mid-eighties that all went away. Now I am confused as to what parts fit what engine. Does a list exits with all the changes to small and big blocks?

Thanks
JB

There are several books on the market for Chevy big and sm blks interchances. www.amazon.com is a good place to start. example;
Chevrolet Big Block V8 Interchange Manual (Powerpro)
by Tom Currao
Chevrolet Small Block V8 Interchange Manual
by David Lewis
Chevrolet Parts Interchange Manual
by Paul A. Herd
