Roaring 1997 Aurora

My 1997 aurora has a roaring noise when accelerating and gets louder as you go...off and on. This is not present when it is in park. The sound seems to be alot louder in the front and you can feel vibration which also gets worse...off and on. These problems are always present, but the severity is never the same. I suspect a cv joint or bearing problem... Any ideas on how to diagnose exactly? I have replaced bearings and cv joints in older cars before but this is very hard to tell where it is or if that is exactly it.... What do I look for? I have looked everywhere for a repair manual for this car and can't find it anywhere... Does it exist? Thanks so much for your help.

Here is the only manual for this car.

http://www.factoryautomanuals.com/ca...8736c27c3acf38

Haynes and Chiltons do not make manuals for these cars, so your only option is the GM service manual (well worth it).

As far as what is wrond with your car, check your front tires for and rocks/dirt nail/foreign objects in the tread. Also, take the wheel off and inspect the rotor and the pads. You may need to change them. As far as vibration goes, get your tires rebalanced. It is either their or from your rotors that you are getting the vibration.

A CV joint makes a 'clanking' sort of sound (metal on metal). A wheel hub makes the roaring sound you describe, but let that be your last resort.

Re: Roaring 1997 Aurora

Thanks so much for your input. I have read around here and I am leaning toward the wheel hub, as I have just bought new tires and installed new brakes and rotors. Man, these cars sure can be expensive!

Thanks again for the info
