I got my motor running quite well. Now somthing in the drivetrain has gone screwy. When I shift from park into any gear, somthing is slipping. I step on the gas and the motor revs and the wheels don't budge. After a few seconds it kicks in and starts to go. I don't know what this is but it does it in every gear. I think it might be the torque converter because there is a loud ticking and clacking coming from the bellhousing. I swear if anymore goes wrong i'm going to drive this truck off of the local bluff. Sombody please help.

May be the transmission pump. It's right up front, easiest inside tranny part to replace.

GM transmissions do not use vacumm after about 1982 model year. Most likely is a pressure problem. Pump or converter

Not to make anyone mad but GM did use vacuum after 82. However you are correct in a sense. His truck has a 700r4 or a 4L60E most likely and they are both controled by partial electronics and partial pump pressure. 700r4 was in them until late 1992, then they switched to the 4L60E. And the 400 turbo (vacuum modulated) was still available in the older trucks. HOWEVER we don't know what year it is and I am going to assume that we are talking about a 700r4 (to tell look on the drivers side front of the tranny, if there are 4 wires its a 700r4 if there is a big bundle it is a 4L60E). Now I am pickin the 700r because I know more about them
. I have replaced two in my truck. ANYHOO, these are not known for longevity. I would FIRST change the fluid and filter. When doing so pay particular attention to the pan, and any debris that could be in the filter and bottom of the pan. Now a little bit of shavings and whatnot is normal, chunks however are NOT. See if this helps. You may want to get pressure readings on the lines to make sure that you do have adequate pressure on the tranny to make the gear changes. I have changed several of these and if you need more help on steps to pull this baby out let me know. Also try posting on www.trustmymechanic.com/forum I am a moderator there and there is another moderater that's specialty is transmission repair it's his life. Transman_619 is his username.

I agree change the filter. You might get out of this very cheap. I had the same problem (twice on differnt trucks) one time it was as easy as a filter the other time was a torque converter (impellar weld broke loose). In the second case the vechicle was not moving at all , not even after warm up. So the filter theory is in your favor.

I had the same problem with my 700R4. It turned out that my torque converter had gone out. It was about a $700 fix at a tranny shop.
