code 302 (cylinder # 2 misfire)
I posted on here a while ago saying my girlfriend's 2000 neon was idling rough mainly at start up. The check engine light never came on and after reading other threads on here I thought it was from putting in platium spark plugs. I took those out about 2 weeks ago and put in cheap champions. That solved the problem but now the check engine light came on and she said it almost died on the highway so I checked the codes and came up with code 302 which is cylinder 2 misfire. What the does this mean, is it gonna be something expensive? Also I remember taking out one of the plugs and it looked darker than the rest. If I am looking at the engine (looking towards the cab) which cylinder is #2? Is it going to be the 2nd one to the right? A quick response would be great because I don't want her driving it if its gonna die or blow the engine. Thanks for any input

Re: code 302 (cylinder # 2 misfire)
Well I tried changing the coil pack and that did nothing. I switched the plug wires around to see if it was the wires that were bad and that did make a difference.

Re: code 302 (cylinder # 2 misfire)
Check to see if there is any oil on the plug wire. If so you need to change the wires and replace the spark plug valve cover gaskets. I had this happen that gaskets were leaking, and the oil broke down the plug wire boot and it would pop out just a little causing a misfire. When i looked at the top of the plug it was half gone due to arcing.
