Dual Exhaust

What is an estimate on how much it would cost to put dual exhausts on a 98 Eclipse GS

Re: Dual Exhaust

We can't answer this for you... you will need to go to a custom exhaust shop in your town and get an estimate. 99% of DSM owners, turbo and nonturbo, accept single exit exhaust. I hope you realize that any dual exhaust you install is going to be fake. I don't know if you are clear on how dual exhaust works, but on some engines (not ours), there are 2 exhaust manifolds. Then, a pipe from each goes to the back, thus, true dual exhaust (sometimes has a pipe that connects them to equalize pressure I believe). OK, for any car with a single exhaust manifold... all inline 4's, The only way to do dual is to split the exhaust somewhere. It will not help any engine performance, it's just for looks.

I'm trying to discourage you from getting a heavier, more expensive item that doesn't do anything. If you want it for show, that's your choice.

Re: Dual Exhaust

My friend with a mustang GT was telling me (1996) how mustangs have true dual exhaust, but camaros and firebirds dont. he said he had two cats, and the dual piping came out all the way from the exhaust mani. He said GM just split the piping midway to a dual. I think the newer import V6s such as the Accords and Mazda 6s also do a split AFTER the cat. Not relating to the performance aspect of it, just the point that it was my thinking that true dual exhausts are less common than i thought. comments?
