Sway Bar Links

2000 V8 Sport. I have a thunking sound in the front and I think both of the sway bar links need replacing. Most every thing else has already been replaced. I purchased the links and the nuts. Any advice from you guys who have done this repair before would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have that thunking noise also, but there is no play in my end links. I read that you have to remove the end links to check the sway bar bushings, so I will try that next. NTB told me they couldn't find anything loose in the front, but thought it was my strut mount bushings. Maybe I will get to that this weekend to check it out. My Saturdays have become the LS work day.

Let me know what you find also. You have my email also. I am the guy you emailed about the VC gaskets.

Don

replaced links

I replaced the links last night. Pretty easy job. Got rid of some of the noise because both links were obviously bad but still have clunking and squeaking in left front. Sway bar bushings were replaced along with both lower ball joints, knuckles, inner tie rods, bearings. All of this about 30k miles ago. How long should the sway bar bushings last? How do I tell if they are bad? I don't want to take it to the stealer again, the last time was under warranty but no more.

Whoa...That's a lot of $$$ in parts. Those bushings should last a long time. It really surprises me that they would go bad within 5 years! I'll keep you posted on what I find on mine. Maybe we have the same problem.

Re: Sway Bar Links

Hey 94bmw are you under 75k miles? If so, you can ask for an after warranty adjustment.

I bought an extended warranty when I bought the car used with 57k miles. All the other front end work was under warranty and also a new transmission and I negotiated a very good warranty for a very good price so it paid for itself by far. The car has 98k now.
