internet relationships

ok...this question arises because me and a friend of mine were just having a conversation. He is embarassed b/c his dad met his stepmom over the internet. I believe it was a dating service. However, I don't seem to understand what there is to be embarassed about. I've read so many stories that it's getting harder and harder to meet people once you get out of college, and since the internet is such a big part of our lives now, I kind of just seems normal. Whats your opinion? Would you be embarassed to meet someone over the internet and then hook up with them in person? What are your reasons? From my POV, you shouldn't be, but I was just curious as to what other peoples reasons were...

Re: internet relationships

i have recently been intermet dating and i think its great. i went one one that the girl was 70 lbs heavier then her pics, and it was a disaster, my second datei dated the girl for 3 mtns and i didnt work, but still an awesome girl. i just started getting on them 2 days ago and i started talking to a girl that seems like she has the same goals as me. its easy cause u can learn what a person is like instead of guessing. she's a teacher, and loves all the same tv shows and hates clubs.best thing is she lives in my home town! i too hate clubs therefore its difficult to meet people in the real world.im shy. ill keep u guys posted!!!
ps u do get alot of personal info on people, whether they are liers is a different story.only thing that bothered me was telling them where we met, but its really no big deal.

Re: internet relationships

My uncle met his current GF over a dating service. My sister is on match.com and is always meeting people but it's funny because her dates are always disasters.

Re: internet relationships

I've done it. it was fun, nothing serious and I never met the person, but this was also like 4-5 years ago. She was really, cool. I had a mic and a webcam at the time and so did she so we actually talked and looked at each other having full conversations and stuff. Wasn't a real relationship like you're talking sbout here, but we took it as something to look forward to everyday or so.

^ Ditto

I've known people who've been in them and gotten married.
I've known people who've been in them and gotten screwed.
They can work.
It's worth a try, after all.. You can always date someone while having an internet relationship at the same time :P

Re: internet relationships

i think dating services are for nerds.... if you're under 30 atleast. I can understand if you're older its hard to meet people. But if you're in your 20s you can just go to a bar or a club or wherever and meet people. I bet over 80% of the guys under 30 on those things are weirdos

Re: internet relationships

I once had an internet with a pretty 19 year old blonde. I met her, though she didn't look 19, more like 50 and didn't look like a she, more like a he and she had grey hear and a beard. Looked NOTHING like she did in the photos, but I suppose people change.

She still touched me where she said she would, though. I told her to stop but she wouldn't

I think she posts on here actually. Her screen name is "Toksin," anyone heard of her?

Re: internet relationships

I see nothing wrong with it. I met my current wife off the internet. we had chatted with each other for a bit, then we met at a group get together, and things went on from there. Yes, there are people out there who choose to lie, or stretch the reality a bit, but don't dog it unless you have tried it.

you never know what is out there. the interent in a way, opens up new avenues to people you wouldnt meet any where else. your perfect match could be out, and not cruising the clubs or bars.
