Question HELP!! '89 Chev S-10 Auto Trans Shift Prob

Have a 4.3 4x4 w/4spd/overdrive ..... It will not shift into 3rd or 4th. Am told that I'm not getting power to the 3rd/4th gear solenoid pack....anyone seen this prob and what was the outcome fix? The symptom shows hitting 3rd and it goes into a neutral status. Would it be a computer issue, some other wiring or component between the computer and solenoid?

besides being sure dipstick shows full after driving few minutes and idling in park ... is it actually in "d" or "3" ? adjustable lever ends near tranny bent or out of adjustment, making you think it in d when maybe it 3. otherwise, change fluid with flush and filter change and visual check.

Turned out that the 3rd/4th gear clutch pack was burned up...which apparently is a common and weak link in this tranny. I wound up having to have ours rebuilt. Got it done for about $650 plus a friend who did the R&R for $150. NOTE: When you rebuild this or many others out there with the 3rd/4th O.D. clutch pack.....make sure you have the rebuilder put in a heavy duty/commercial clutch pack. Do not use the standard one. This makes all the difference in the world and only costs an extra $30-$50. Also do NOT tow in overdrive and make sure you have an external aftermarket trans cooler installed. Good Luck !!!
ps Also we found 2 other "junk yard" trannies with low miles ...but turned out to be the same problem. I would NOT recommend a swap out....you'll likely wind up with the same prob again in short order...unless there is proof it had been rebuilt. Save yourself the hassle and have yours rebuilt. Just a suggestion based on our prob and research.
