Trailer Hitch

Hello all. I just bought a 2005 Santa fe and I need a hitch for it. The dealer wants 329.00 for one. Can anybody tell me if its the same as a 2004. If a hitch for a 2004 will fit a 2005 it will save me a ton of money. Thank you John or [email protected]

I don't think the bumper or frame was changed for 2005 so it shouldn't be a problem but your local service dept should be able to answer the question. For the money you spend on them you would think they would help you with that info.

Thank you. I didn't think there was a change.....I'm going to call the dealer and ask them. The dealer wants 329.00 for one. After market would be about half that but they had no listing for it.

According to my sources, although the parts number are different the 2004 will fit on a 2005. But that is about the usual price that the one that the dealership is selling. Now if you want and if you can do it yourself then you can get it much cheaper.

There are four brands that Santa Fe owners have come to use more. They are the factory/dealer installed ones (Sure Pull), the Draw-Tite, the Hidden Hitch and Curt.

The dealer/factory (Sure Pull) installed ones are way to exposed for my tastes.

The Draw-Tite brand receiver type hitch hides almost completely behind the rear bumber leaving only the receiver and a portion of the hitch frame exposed. It also has a wire harness to connect your vehicle to trailer lights. (The Draw-Tite T-One Connector, model 18310)

The Hidden Hitch brand has the entire frame hanging below the rear bumper. (Note: their website states that their model won't fit the 4 cyl Santa Fe, although a few owners have made it fit, but I do believe they sell one specifically for the 4 cyl)

The Curt hitch brand is completely hidden behind the rear bumper and only the hitch portion is exposed. (to me it looks much better). So far there are only a few places that sells the Curt brand. One of which is the Hyundai dealership in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin at the Hyundai Accessory mall and also at Truck Add ons .

Shoot they even make them in different colors.

Doing it yourself is easy, just need the time and patience.

If you choose to go with the Curt ones, I would suggest you contact Brad Adkins at the Hyundai Accessory mall as he can answer any questions you may have on the brand and or prices/shipping etc. They are top notch and have no complaints over at other santa fe web sites.

Oh, btw. Whatever brand you choose, please take pics of your install if possible and post them up. It might help others.

The dealer up here in Maine throws them on free when you buy one. Wiring included.

I know on the 2.7 it's 2700 pounds, and I thought the 3.5 was just a little more--3200 pounds, and that's with trailor brakes. I have the 2.7 and tow a double wide atv trailor... about 1900 pounds when loaded. It has no problem with towing, but does use a lot more fuel when towing in the hills of maine. Goes from 27 MPG to around 21 MPG Highway.

Nice. I was kinda hoping for more lol. Do you think it would be possible to tow a car with a 3.5L santa fe?

It will depend on the weight of the car. If the car is being towed on a trailor you'll need to figure in the trailor weight with the car.
If planning to use a towbar....which a lot of cars now you can't do......you need to check if the car can be towed in neutral without ruining the tranny.
Remember if your overloading your Hyundai by towing more than the recomended load...you'll burn up your tranny. That will cost some big bucks to have repaired. Warranties won't cover that if they can prove you overloaded the Hyundai by towing.
The Hyundai Santa Fe weight in at about 3500 Pounds. A small Hyundai Elantra weights in at 2700 pounds......Theres your limit. That's without the trailor that will be needed to tow it on. If useing one of the trailors you use to put just the front tires up on you may be ok.
Just do your research on weights before you try it. The Santa Fe isn't a heavy hauler when it comes to towing. You may need to go to something like a Toyota 4 runner or a Nissan Xterra. to do the Job. Big bucks...............
