1999 seperate trnasmission from engine

I have the engine reay to pull other than seperating the engine from the tranny. I am pulling it from the top. I need help seperating the engine from the tranny. The converter bolts are all undone and the engine mounts on the drivers side are undone and I can not get them to seperate and I am worried about using to much force. Help

If you don't have a Hays manual get one. They are about 15 dollars at any Autozone and take you through each step to take the engine out. The book I have ends at 1995 so there is not much more I can help you with. Every car I get I automatally go get a Hays manual for it: always money well spent. good luck.

Separating the trans from the engine

I just did that taking the trans out of my 1997 taurus that got sideswiped. To disconnect the trans you have to take the starter off, disconnect both CV axles, the transmission mount, and all the bolts on the transmission. Keep in mind there is a bolt behind the starter and one on the back side of the engine. Also, if you are trying to do it by dropping the subframe, you have to pry up the rubber boot on the rack and pinion where it connects to the steering column and take out the 10mm bolt. Don't forget to disconnect your VSS, shifter cable and top plug wire. I hope this helps.

I am not removing the transmission. I am removing the engine from the top. I am going to purchase to large flat tip screw drivers and see if that helps. I am going to try and the seperating from the bottom instead of the top like the book shows. The starter is already removed and the torque converter bolts and the two hidden bolts are also removed.

Re: 1999 seperate trnasmission from engine

I have done a motor swap in a 97 wagon with the 3.0DOHC. Make sure you have the trans supported with a jack or something. The motor and trans will not seperate until the motor is lifte up beyond the influence of the motor mounts, particularly the rear one. I found it to be easiest to r&r with the front motor mount removed from the engine end.

What was holding me from sepersting the engine from the tranny is thier are two bolts on the drivers side connectred to the motor mount from the transmission which I discovered after I broke the the bolt holes on the tranny. $80 dollars later they got tigged back on. The new engine runs great.
