Some Coolant In Oil...
Well it looks like I've had the dreaded leak. I've got the intake off and pulling the heads to freshen them up. Looking at the cam lobes they look, well, layered.
Outside third it "bronzed". Next layer in on each side is normal wear. and the center section looks worn. What do you think? Maybe just change the gaskets, fix the leak and throw it back together and see what happens? BTW this is a 99 Jimmy 4wd. Cylinder hone marks are still slightly visible. I don't think it's terrible, just not sure if it's worth digging down to the lower end. Any input is appreciated. Thanks. |

Re: Some Coolant In Oil...
The bronze is varnish and is normal. Has nothing to do with coolant.

Yeah, I just threw that in for general overall condition inside the engine... I'm more concerned whether or not the "scoring" across the lobe from the roller tappet is an issue possibly related to coolant, and if I should worry about my other bearing surfaces enough to pull the thing apart.

BTW I love those wheels... and the sound clip of the exhaust. This is the wifes ride, but I definately want to get a new muffler on it and possibly do an electric fan conversion.

The second layer looks like normal wear but the very center looks like to scored a little... definately a darker shade of silver.

I'll check it out... Haven't looked at it in a week. I've had the flu and I'm still sweating it out. Maybe I'll get back on it this weekend. Thank's for the input.
