Wink 01 Ranger check engine/EGR

Hey, I have a 2001 Ranger Edge, v6 4.0l 4x4 automatic. Recently the check engine light popped on. I took it to autozone and they told me the code they pulled was EGR valve, excessive flow. I replaced the egr and cleaned around the connections to remove carbon deposits. Ran my truck for a day or 2. The light stayed on so I disconnected the battery for 10-15 minutes or so. I hooked it back up and the light was off. That lasted about a day. Now the check engine light is back on. Took it back to Autozone and the same code came up. Any ideas to check. I was going to buy a haynes manual but the ranger only goes to 2000. Is there that much difference from 2000 to 2001? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Spencer

many will confirm, it's DPFE sensor. about 2x3 inch rectangle box on intake with 2 hoses & electrical connection. follow small hose from EGR valve & you'll find it. about 60-70 bucks at dealer. Good Luck

Re: 01 Ranger check engine/EGR

I replaced the dpfe sensor today. That was about $30 at local dealership. The light is still on though. Gonna disconnect the battery to clear it and hope it is fixed.

Cool

I also own a 01 Ranger with a 4.0 sohc v6. I have been battling with an EGR problem for a month now. I have replaced the EGR valve and the Pressure feedback sensor and am going to replace that $30. sensor
that you have just replaced DP something! Let me know what you find out. I went on an online auto diagnostic pay site last night and it lists 10 + possibilitys that can cause this. I have check codes 402 403 and 1400. They also say to check all the vacuum lines and I found a 90 deg. hose on top of the manifold with a crack in it and replaced it. Also the metal tube that runs up to the EGR valve can clog up. Mine wasn't though! Hey good luck to you!

Your Welcome! I had same problem & found out it's very common. Never had airbag light stay on, go to www.rangerpowersports.com & do search for "airbag light". I'm sure you'll find an answer there. Good Luck!!
