97 Voyager Drivers Side Power Window Problems

I lowered my drivers window today, but could not vlose it later. It makes no noise and I dont think that it is drawing any current. When I try and activate both Drivers and Passenger windows, the drivers side does not seem to pull current or slow the passenger side.

I have removed the drivers side switch assembly, but dont have a pin out or wiring dia to test anything.

Any advise on how to test and diagnose the problem.

I'm in South Africa, where the only option for spares is the main dealer with hefty inport pricing, so help really apreciated.

Many thanks

Bob

1. Check for power. (ignition switch key ON). On some vehicles there will be a Fuse to protect the whole Power Window system, but each door may have it's own circuit breaker or relay.
2. Check the switch for continuity in both directions. The switch controls motor polarity and therefore direction of the motor (reversible).

Bob,
Power Window (accessories) wiring are seldom included in the chassis diagrams.
I thought I gave you sufficent information to check out a one wire circuit but I will try again.
You said you have power to the other windows....correct? That means the Red wire coming to the Master Control has power (With the Key on) So that eliminates any question about the power.
The switch you removed has only three terminals.....right?
One of the wires is PWR (Red) Blue wire is UP, Brown wire is DOWN
Both wires go to the window MOTOR. (The motor is grounded to the chassis)
You can check the circuit with a 12V trouble light (with power on) or ohm resistance using a VOM (with power off)..
Hope this helps out.

rwelton, I have a diagram from 98 caravan. probably the same. Your email is turned off so you'll have to let me know how to get it to you.

sorry guys, I wasn't thinking. I have the diagrams for a 2001 caravan. I don't know if they would still be the same for a 97? I subscribed to all data for the caravan and a 98 explorer. That's where the 98 came from sorry. If you still want the diagram let me know. they are pretty good diagrams. For the windows it's right down to the switch contacts and wire colors. I've been copying and pasting them into word so I don't have to sign up another year. Anyone needs a diagram, I'm happy to help if I can.

Thanks for the response.
I have worked with a lot of different makes and models, and have found all of them are pretty much alike with differences being in the circuit protection side. I covered those differences in my earlier response however, Bob stated he had power to the other windows therefore power supply became a non-issue.
All the best,

Re: 97 Voyager Drivers Side Power Window Problems

well rwelton on the drivers door switch you need 12v on the tan wire and that comes from a ptc in junction block {fuse box under dash}this ptc is a type of circuit breaker that opens when too much current flows then resets when it cools so to check switch in the down position you need 12v at white wire and the green wire should go to ground and up 12v on green and white should ground if switch is good that's as simple as i can make it hope it works for you oh and bye the way switches are common faults on these vans

Re: Re: 97 Voyager Drivers Side Power Window Problems

I have an 89 Grand Voyager - had same problem - as I got to looking at the wires where the door opens and shuts - wire broken and several more about to - so did surgery on them - with a bit of wire crimping - and tape - it works again. Might have a look there - may have to cut away some of the tape/covering to see what the condition of the wires are in.
