1993 Golf stalling
The problem with my 1993 Golf 2.0L is that after 20 minutes or so it spits and sputters, then cuts out. I start it again and the same things happens. I am thinking it may be the fuel pump but do not want to put $$$ into that as it is expensive if that is not the problem. Any help would be appreciated!

Re: 1993 Golf stalling
Is the check engine light on? Is the check engine light functional? It should come on for a couple of second when first started.

The check engine light does not come on, but when I turn the key on, where the odometer is there is a light that comes on and says "in 02". I do not know what that means. Any help would help me!

Re: 1993 Golf stalling
IN 02 stands for Inspection Service 02. The service light has four states IN 00(no service req) OEL (Oil change req) IN 01( Bit of a larger service ) and then IN 02 which is a fairly large service in your service manual it will describe what needs to be done with this service. I think boschmann will be of more help with the stalling though.

Re: 1993 Golf stalling
The CEL doesn't come on for a few seconds whn first starting? Is the fuel pump making any noise? Sputtering is more commonly a fuel issue but you can try spraying the ignition coil with water & see if it starts acring. You would need a simple fuel pressure gauge to check the pressure.
