1997 jeep will not run

I just got a 97 wrangler 4.0. The person that had it before me overheated it by trying to drive home after an accident. When I got it, it had bad compression on 2 cylinders, a cracked exaust manifold and nothing on the asd relay was working for more than a few seconds after the key was put in the on position. I now have a good running engine in it with a good exaust manifold. However the only way it will stay running is if I have someone else start it wile I keep spraying starting fluid in the throttle body. I did replace the crank positon sensor because it is a common problem with jeeps so I know it is not that. I had to use the intake off the old engine so none of those sensors were replaced. Also the fuel gage only works for that first 1 or 2 seconds when everything else is working. Another thing is the bell that goes off when you first turn the key forward may have something to do with it because I noticed that if I put a test light on the wire going to the coil, when that bell stops thats when the fuel gage goes to zero and the test light goes out. And last of all in order to get it to do all of this I have to disconect the battery and reconect it again as if I'm giving the computer a new chance every time. If I try it twice in a row it would not work unless I had cut the power first however it does run good when I use ether.
If any one know what it could be please let me know
