Re: Prepping fenders and bumper for paint a few ???s
I have done a little body work on my CRX that i still havn't got to complete cause of my recent motor failure. Question 1. How much time do you have, the more time you spend sanding and getting things smooth the better the final product will look. Question 2. Have you ever shot paint out of a paint gun before. If not i would suggest that you get some scrap stuff until you know how to get the pressure set right for your paing gun so you don't have runs and get the timing down on your passes. Question 3. Do you know anyone that has done this type of stuff before that could possibly help ya out. If you do, this would make your life a lot easier, cause differ paint guns require differ pressure to operate correctly and Paint and primer needs to be thined out the same exact way with every soat you put on or you may get differ shades in differ spots. As far as the sand paper goes, shape what ever you are paings with 80 to 100 grit unless you have lots of bondo and need to get a large amount off at one time, once you get the basic shape you want, sand down with 250 to 300 grit until all is smooth, after that, i have heard of people using as high as 1300 grit sand paper for the final sand but i have only gone as high as 1000 grit. There are differ ways to sand also, you can dry sand or wet sand. The only time wet sanding is really helpful is on the final two or three sand downs untill you get it right, or if you need to keep dust down to a minimum cause of painting enviroment, water can be your friend to help dust settle quicker, byt if you can sand in one place and paint in another to help keep dust out of your paint then that's the way i'd go. But as far as paint and body, it does take practice and plenty of patience.
