Unhappy 1996 Taurus with AXOD transmission Problems

I have a 1996 taurus with the 3.0 and it has an AXOD trans in it that has taken a crap. The speedometer drops to 0 and it starts downshifting like crazy. I am going to try replacing the VSS but I want to know if, since I have a rebuilt AX4N trans, I can swap out the AXOD for the upgraded AX4N. What differences are there? Things I can change? I am aware that the VSS is different in shape(the gear) but would the trans bolt up and work? I also already know that the OD gear ratio is slightly different. Thank you so much for your help.

Oddly enough I solved it myself

Hello all. Just wanted to let you all know that I changed the VSS and all the problems went away. It was a great feeling to save 400$ on a tranny swap.

How much do you pay for a transmission swap?

He didn't say rebuild.

Talking Tranny swap

I ended up not needing the tranny swap. It was a problem with a 22$ Speed Sensor. The local speed shop said they would swap the trans in for between 3-400$. I have taken several cars to them. They are located in Pottstown, Pa and if you would like their phone number I can get it for you. They are called Performance Specialties. I still have the rebuilt transmission and torque convertor I got for my 1996 taurus.. if any one is interested let me know. It has less than 10,000 miles on it. Is complete with torque convertor but the VSS got banged up in the back of my truck. Thanks, Vinny
