Ford Explorer Compass

Have a 2002 Ford Explorer and the compass mounts behind rear view mirror.
The direction reading on the dash reads 180 degs. from the direction of travel. Any Help to repair this problem. ?
When I travel north the reading is south.

AL

Although I can't tell you exactly what it is, there should be a procedure in the owners manual to calibrate it. It involves driving in circles...etc etc etc. check it out.

Looked it up for a 98. sure it's the same. try it.
1. Start the vehicle. NOTE: For optimum calibration, drive to an open, level location away from large metallic objects or structures. Switch off all non-essential electrical accessories (rear window defrost, heater A/C, map lamps, wipers, etc.) and make sure all doors are closed.
2. Locate the electronic compass/temperature display on the overhead console, press and hold the MODE button until CAL appears in the display, then release the MODE button. NOTE: To exit CAL mode before performing a compass adjustment, turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
3. Drive the vehicle slowly (less than 5 km/h [3 mph] ) in complete circles until CAL disappears from the display. NOTE: If the CAL indicator does not turn off after the vehicle has been driven in a circle no more than five times, demagnetize the vehicle and repeat the procedure.

Re: Ford Explorer Compass

B33 is close. there is no cal switch. under the rear view mirror there is a black mount with a 1/16 inch hole in the bottom. stick a safety pin inside and hold for a few seconds untill the readout on the dash says "cal", then shift into gear and drive in a circle for 30 seconds, it will fix itself. have the car running when you push in on the button with the pin.
