Rattling Instrument Panel P11
guys, I got this annoying buzz coming from the inside of the instrument panel.
I muted another buzzing coming from the trim around the instrument panel earlier this year, but this time it's from the inside as I press on the trim the noise don't go away.Anyone have this problem and had any luck fixing it? it's pretty annoying now that I have an aftermarket muffler making more vibrations causing more buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing... Im planning to open up the instrument panel tomorrow...if anyone has similar problems and have answers, please let me know!

every once in a while i get a little rattle from "inside" the dash - i notice it during the cold months, but, once the car has been sitting out in the sun and the inside is warm it goes away. I havne't bothered to fix it (lazy) my solution = turn the radio up. If you do figure it out though - post up where you found it.

is this noise pretty typical on a P11? like you said, it's only when it's chilly out and makes noises until the car's warmed up. haha, turn up the stereo, ei? hehehe.

I've had my P11 for about 18months now... never had that rattle, and I do live in an area (near NYC) where we have two extremes of weather. It gets up to (sometimes over) 100 degrees in the summer and below 0 in the winter.
The only rattle I've ever had was from the compartments on the front doors if you have the radio cranked and the song has some low bass. |

b-b00gie: I also get that rattling in the front door compartments, especially from the driver side door. How'd you fix it? Thanks!

Same problem
Yup, I've got the same problem too...I've owned 2 cars and they rattled, but I bought them used so that's kinda expected...I bought my G20 new and about 2 months later the the panel surrounding the AC vent on the left side of the driver started to squeek/rattle...and now the the center panel surrounding the AC temp controls and the radio started recently to make noise. I don't know about you guys, but sometimes I like to cruz in silence without the radio and when I hear that sh-t, damn what the f-ck Infiniti?...anywayz, so I've been thinking of maybe getting the dash kits so that somehow it'll keep the dash pieces more still, or maybe removing them and put some kinda thin lining of something. Definitely more of a Nissan quality, than what an Infiniti should be...
BTW, What about your windows? Do they rattle too? Tinting them will make the window operation worse! Oh, another one...the moon roof slide cover...has it ever creeked or crackled??? |

that left side air vent is exactly the same place i think my rattling is coming from. But, so far itz the only place that rattles when cold. Everything else seems to be fine. I just looked at www.infinitihelp.com and apparently there's a service bulletin for the rattling the interior of the g's exhibit.

thanks dudes, I am (not glad) but feel relieved to hear that I'm not the only one with a rattling 'near luxury' car. this sucks man, my civic don't even rattle one bit.
I too like to drive in silence once in a while and each time I hear that buzzing, pisses me off. I had the buzzing come from the left air vent about 5 months ago too (only a month after getting the car). I took off the panel, installed some thin foam pads (exterior mounting double stick tape) between the trim and the dash. it took care of that noise, but now it's coming from another location directly behind the instrument panel. this is the last nissan I'm buying, to tell you the truth. maybe the Z, but no more of this rattling sh't.

2000g20t: no my windows don't rattle. I've never heard of windows rattling because of tinting. hope they don't start to rattle later down the road... I get that crackling/creeking sound from my moon roof cover too. Do you know how they attached that plastic strip to the cover because I thought maybe they glued it or something and that's why it's crackling. Dunno, just a thought...

My windows are not tinted and they rattle when partly open...loudly if I may say so. My dash rattle on both front corners and so does my glovebox doors. Apart from that no other rattles.
I have a 99 P11 G20t the only other rattle I hear is the chattering of my teeth as I eat up the roads at 200km/hr ....I guess a better suspension setup might help this .....jk

luckily this morning it was sort of chilly in chicago so was able to locate the buzzing from the instrument panel. it was not from the inside but from the very tip of the panel with the dash trim. so should be an easy fix. gonna work on it tonite.
gonna just put that exterior mounting double stick tape along the rim of the instrument panel just slightly far enough so that you can't see it from the driver's seat. that stuff works pretty good. it's some cheap 3M stuff you can get at any hardware store.

AC noise
Hey is your guys AC kinda loud too? The AC fan/motor has gotten noticably loud recently (during idle)...I found this web site with a recall list for the G20:
http://www.alldata.com/TSB/27/00271003.html Does anyone know what kinda stuff is covered under warranty? 1. Will they fix or replace the dash panels (including moonroof cover)? 2. Windshield wipers? 3. AC noise? 4. Power windows? |

I've heard the noise from the moonroof on occasion too....most noticably when the car is very hot inside. I think it's just the plastic reacting to sudden change of temp as it cools down.
