Re: Video of the new car for 2005.

Just curios, why FWD for Autocross? I just bought an MR2 for autocross, it's RWD for better handling. I know that it will be in a tougher class, but still.

I can ask you the same question, why RWD? RWD is not any better than FWD when it comes to autocross. Especially when you have the car setup right.

Plus a FWD car is easier to pull out of oversteer than RWD.

I've been autocrossing FWD cars now for 10 years or so. I've run a couple of RWD & AWD. No real advantage except at the start.

Well, to tell you the truth, I've never autocrossed in my life. This is the first year that I actually can, because I'm 18. I chose the Mr2 because I'd like to go drag racing with it some, and since like 60 percent of the weight was in the back, it would handle better, but took more skill to control. With FWD you have torque steer issues, especially with more power.

Well when I 1st started getting into cars I tried drag racing. It wasn't my cup of tea. Sitting in grid for 2-3 hours to get a 15 second run for $50 wasn't worth it.

THen I found autocrossing. Sit in grid for about 30 minutes, get 4-8 runs from about 40-70 seconds each for $20 was more like it. Plus there's more skill in turning the steering wheel instead of going straight.

With my 00 Civic Si I was able to beat cars with 2-3x more horsepower and 2-3x more $$$. I remember back in 2001 beating a Ferrari 355 Spyder ANd before the event started he was making fun of our Hondas

But true for drag racing you want a RWD car to get a better launch. You should try autocrossing it's definitely more fun.

Re: Video of the new car for 2005.

I like the vid.. LOL... IMO, autocross is mostly driver so it really doesn't matter RWD or FWD. I've personally witnessed a 77' Grand Prix with 400 outrun all kinds of makes except for a V6 Berretta and S2000...

You're 18, you just got an MR2, and you just "chose" to go to the Honda boards to question their racing layout...

We've seen this condition before...

I also own a 91 Honda CRX. That's why I visit this board. I had the CRX for like 6-7 months now.

Re: Video of the new car for 2005.

clawhammer, I assure you CivicSiRacer knows his stuff. FWD vs RWD is almost a non-discussionin autocross as that sport is easily 75% driver, 20% tire and maybe ... maybe 5% car.

IIRC, CivicSiRacer ate Hyde by nearly a full second at the one autocross we were both at. He's a cool guy with a sweet ride

... I can't wait to see him at the hill climbs this year and take my "second" of time back
(just having fun, no real smack talk here).
