Knocking Sound

I have a 94 beretta and as of yesterday, when i make a turn while driving, there is knocking sound seeming to come from around the right front wheel. I've been told by a mechanic friend that it could be a bad axel or CV joint. I have had problems with the sway bar link on that wheel before. Also, i have absolutely no money to spend on repairs at the moment but i need to drive my car back and forth to college twice a week. Is it ok to drive with this problem for the time being or should i let the car sit until i can afford to have it fixed? This sound only occurs on sharp turns, such as a 90 degree turn at a stop sign or traffic light.

Nor sure if you are still having this noise, or have ahd it fixed, but... If it is a CV joint and only hearing it in sharp turns you can drive like it is for a while. Should really get fixed though. If you can fined a resonable mechanic it should only cost 150 bucks or so. I have a mechanic who does my exhaust work, CV joints, or welding. I generally do pretty much other stuff if possible. he charges around 150 including labor for a Beratta or Corsica CV replacement. It depends on how far gone the joint is as to how long you could drive it. If it an occasional poping noise I would guess weeks to months. I have a 91 Corsica that is about due and it started poping some last fall, but not real noticable yet. If it very loud I would not drive until fixed. As a rule, always best to fix any repair ASAP to avoid being broke down, cause a wreck, etc. that will cost A LOT more to deal with.

so i took it in to my buddy's shop and he put it op on the lift. the boot was still intact but recomended replacing the axel anyway since it would have to be done eventually. but once it was down off the lift... the noise was gone. its been about a month now and the noise completely went away. the mechanic said when the car was lifted, the pressure being taken off the wheels probably re-packed the grease in the joint and thats why the nouise stopped. so for now it's ok to drive and hopefully it will last a little bit longer untill i can get some cash together for a new axel.
