2000 Blinker Relay

I have a 2000 Intrigue and the right turn single was starting to go. Some days it would just click rapidly when signaling right but only the right side (white) light would illuminate, the yellow blinker would fail for front and back. This went on intermittanly for about three weeks, now it happens all of the time. The left turn signal has always worked fine.

I replaced all of the bulbs and check fuses. I read that the sockets can get corroded. I swapped all of the sockets with known working ones. (left side). All of the sockets and bulbs work fine except for when trying to signal right. I turned on the hazard light and all of those work as they should. (I read about the trick to lightly press the hazard light when trying to signal but that did not work either).

I truely believe that this is a relay problem of some sort but I cannot locate the relay. Where can I purchase one and where is it located to swap it out?

I someone has a different diagnoses, please help.

Thanks,
Hockeynut

To the best of my knowledge, there is no turn signal relay. However, the turn signal flasher is integrated into the hazard light switch so you need to replace the whole thing if this is bad. The dealership will probably have it in stock because it does have a high failure rate. A buddy of mine had to replace his and it cost $35.

I would first check all your fuses. I know each headlight has their own fuse but I'm not sure about the turn signals. You say when you use the right turn signal it blinks fast. I know you said that all the bulbs work fine with the hazards on, but do all of the lights illuminate when you use the right turn signal (and do they all blink fast)?

Re: 2000 Blinker Relay

the flasher can be easily replaced by going through the center (high one) air vent on the dash. Do a search here for flasher for the info. But if your flasher was truly bad both sides would both work the same.

If I were you I would check for resistance in all the wiring. Use a voltmeter with a needle attached to the leads. The needle can be forced into the wire to get the reading. One of the sockets is most likely bad.

On Intrigues, I would look at the front right turn signal socket first - The one on my daughter's 1998 went bad, about $24 from the dealer. I would replace the bulb at the same time I replace the socket. A bad socket can kind of ruin the bulb, too.

When I say blinks fast, it is not the light at all it is the sound of a relay going at twice the speed it should. Both the front and back turn signals will not illuminate.

I check all of the fuses and moved the working socket from the left over to the right and it fails. WHen I move the one from the right to the left side, it works fine. This tells me that the sockets are good. I know that they are good because when I turn on the flashers, all of the lights work as they should. The same lights that will not illuminate with the turn signal.

I will go to the dealer and see if I can get the part.

part no and info is under "replacing your flasher". I bought mine from the dealer for about $40. My flasher would go nutz like that also --so fast that the bulbs would only be dimly lit and not go off. The hardest part is getting the flasher part out of the socket --it's almost a 2 person job. Everything else is easy. 1/2 hour tops to replace.
