Angry Fuel Pump installation help

Alright 93 3.8L... the old fuel pump was on its way out had a slight rough idle and the pump was making noise. i bought a new one installed it and all it does now is go up to 1500 rpm the falls down roughly and die..... did i do something wrong? better yet that fuel tube thing that goes into the pump, does that have to go inside the pump tube or just put it in there with its rubber bushing thing? thats how it seemed to come out??? help plz
