Angry bad axle on 93 camry

hello again, it appears that i may have a bad driver side axle. I know nothing about this but what can i do about it? is it expensive to fix? what would cause that to happen? the car has 146,000 miles on it.

While im driving sometimes when im going slow and turning or just turning to get out i hear a loud clunk coming from the front of the car. It seems to happen when i turn the wheel all the way to either side but it doesnt have to be the case everytime. Can that be my axle and not the steering rack?

i also thought i needed brakes cause the sensor squeals when i step on the brakes so i had them checked out just to be told that they are still new so maybe its the back brakes but now, would the back breaks make the sensors go off when i step on the breaks?

Which side do you hear it from? Front left or right? Its called the cv boot that's damaged. Replacing one side is roughly around $130 parts and labor included. It isn't the powersteering unless you feel the steering wheel is getting more and more stiffer. You can go to a local shop to get the axle fixed, nothing serious. It happens from time to time.

Good luck,
Calvin

If you know how to replace it yourself, you can get the shaft for about $60 with lifetime warranty.

Re: bad axle on 93 camry

Calvin,
We just got out daughter's Camry XLE out of the shop today. Originally we took it in because the tranny was trashed. After getting it in the shop they found the axle shafts were badly worn, so we had them replaced. It cost us about $120.00 each. We were told one reason they wear is because the CV Boots get torn or worn and let dirt and water inside. Our daughter had the car 24 hours when the tranny crapped out. It was in the shop for 8 days. On the way home I could tell the rear shocks are needing replaced. There is no jack or lug wrench in the car. I cannot figure out just yet how to get the wheels off when I need to, it looks like there is some kind of key in the glove box, but I'll have to figure that out. Anyway, that is a long way of saying it sounds like you are right about this problem on the bad axle thread.

Re: Re: bad axle on 93 camry

It was bad cv boots, inner and outer on the driver side and it cost me about 150 to replace. I also had a bad left side inner tire rod and that cost me about 250 to replace. I got my oil leak fixed by replacing the oil pressure sensor and that was 35 dollars.
Thanks a lot for giving me a starting point to work off of.

No problem. Usually when you hear sounds when turning or going over a bump its usually the cv boots. However, you might need to check the alignment now on all 4 wheels and check the powersteering. Has the steering wheel gotten stiffer in anyway? All these things are essential.

Good Luck,
Calvin

Re: bad axle on 93 camry

no the steering feels the same but they did rotate the tires and put my best 2 in the front and the worst 2 in the back, but i needed an alignment anyways so ill be doing that next. I mentioned before that I would lose the powersteering once in a while and i dont know why that would happen but they didnt find anything wrong with that at the garage. I guess only time will tell and ill have to keep an eye on it. Thanks a lot for all the help.

I have an oil leak on my 93 Camry V6 sedan. I am not leaving puddles in my driveway but I am aware that I probably have a leak around the seals. I had an 82 Celica with the same problem a while ago. Did the oil pressure sensor actually stop the slow leak? What does it do?
